Hey Richard, I know what your saying about the bad running....I learned to live with it though....I think the problem is not in your petcock or your vaccum lines. I found out mine was doing it because the float needle in the carb. was getting old and therefore letting too much fuel enter the carbs....check it out if you want, I am sure thats your problem. And about that new bike. I just got rid of my savage because it was nothing but problems for me. I had to perform way too many major engine overhauls on it. May have just been coincidence. But I bought me a Harley Davidson 1200 sportster.....for only 6,500 dollars....less than a v star..and VERY VERY strong runner...The guy I bought it from bought it brand new in 1989 and did very little customization to it. He got it for 4,159 bucks......see how it went UP in value ,and I could very easily get what I paid for it out of it. A v star will only depreciate in value more like a new passenger car. I hope you dont think I am preaching a Harley at you, but I wish I would have done it a long time ago, before the Savage curse got me.
